Masterplan, Renovation and Addition
Masterplan and Renovation
Wayzata, Minnesota

This project was borne of a desire to create a more community-oriented experience, so parishioners would share a more interactive presence with one another and the presiding Clergy in the worship space. Former entry into the sanctuary was from the side; the goal was a more formal center aisle approach with improved sightlines and opportunity for group dynamics. The project included reorientation and expansion of the sanctuary to create a center aisle and angled seating within a classic architectural vernacular. We created a better relationship between entry, gathering, and the newly reoriented sanctuary, and accessible and user friendly entry and circulation throughout the campus.

The current administrative offices were relocated from the school wing into the lower level of the church building and addition, with light wells for appropriate daylighting, and improved dedicated entry. This created program space to allow reorganization of existing space within the school wing to meet current size and functional needs for school administrative offices, an expanded kindergarten/preschool suite approach, and improved specialty classrooms. Building security was enhanced, and all mechanical and electrical systems and finishes were upgraded; outdated windows were replaced, and the elevator was extended to reach the third floor of the school.
