LEED Gold Certification

The new community center for the Flynntown Housing Zone at St. John’s University is a student gathering space that provides a space for programs for students living in the surrounding housing.  The design includes lounges, dining space, study spaces and recreation spaces.  The project includes an exterior gathering space for alumni and student special events.  The  11,000 square foot building has achieved LEED Gold Certification.  The building was designed and constructed as a learning tool case study for the Center for Environmental Studies at SJU.  The Weidt Group is a consultant providing energy modeling, daylight modeling and measurement & verification.  The design incorporates the use of wood trusses and wood siding in a manner that is compatible with the adjacent buildings.
